Cigar City Brewing to be offered on Carnival Cruise Lines

Yup it’s true, you’ll be able to hop a Carnival Cruise Ship and enjoy something other than their delicious mojitos (trust me, they are good)…

Reported from Tampa Bay Business Journal, ”

Beginning July 13, when you sidle up to a bar on one of Carnival Cruise Lines’ Florida-based ships, you’ll be able to order up a Cigar City.

Thirteen Carnival ships sailing from five Florida ports will serve cans of Cigar City Cracker Belgian-Style Ale and Invasion Pale Ale. The cruise line projects it will serve up to 100,000 Cigar City brews in the first year of the agreement.

The partnership has been touted as the first between a craft brewery and a major cruise line. Cigar City founder Joey Redner is obviously excited about the cruise line putting his beer on board the biggest of party boats. It benefits his brand in two basic ways. “For a small company like us, it’s obviously an opportunity to sell more beer,” Redner told the Tampa Bay Business Journal. “But it goes hand-in-hand that Cigar City being on those ships will increase our profile, and that never hurts.”

Seven Tampa Bay Breweries Team Up for Collaboration

TAMPA, FL — Recently Southern Brewing & Winemaking (Southern) hosted a collaboration brew day in honor of the Bad A** Beerfest put on by Tampa Bay Brewing Company.

Tampa Bay Brewing Company (TBBC) teamed up with Southern, Cigar City Brewpub, Barley Mow, Coppertail, Green Bench, and Big Storm to brew six recipes that will be released at the Bad A** Beerfest on June 28th. All six brews will be on tap together under one tent at the festival.

The actual brewing took place at Southern on Friday, June 6th. Craft beer fans were invited to come hang out in the Southern biergarten and watch the brewing process. Southern was chosen as the brewday location due to the brewery’s unique small batch set-up that allows for six batches to be brewed at the same time.

The six collaborations brewed for the festival include:

TBBC and Cigar City Brewpub: Weizenbock
TBBC and Barley Mow: Big IPA
TBBC and Coppertail: Saison
TBBC and Green Bench: Belgian Dubbel
TBBC and Big Storm: Smoked Scotch Ale

For the final brew, TBBC, CCB Brewpub, Barley Mow, Coppertail, Greenbench, Big Storm, and Southern all independently chose some malt and hops and threw them together for a unique and surprising amalgam brew.

Southern was involved with all of brews that day, so one keg of each of the beers brewed for the festival will also be available on tap in the Southern taproom later this month.

Cigar City Brewing to Release Homefront IPA May 28th

Homefront IPA was developed in 2011 by Fremont Brewing Company and Center of the Universe Brewing Company in order to raise money and awareness for Operation Homefront. Operation Homefront is a charity that provides emergency assistance to military heroes and their families. Aged on Louisville Slugger maple bats, this IPA does more than just quench your thirst; it improves the lives of our soldiers.

Homefront IPA is a unique charity beer in that 100% of the proceeds are donated to Operation Homefront. With the help of 6 participating breweries and other organizations that donated the hops and grains used to make the beer, Hops for Heroes was able to raise roughly $80,000 dollars for Operation Homefront in 2013.

This year, Hops for Heroes is hoping to top $200,000 and is set to brew 800 barrels (24,800 gallons) of beer between the 11 participating breweries. Homefront IPA is brewed by Cigar City Brewing as well as :

  • Center of the Universe Brewing Company, Ashland, VA
  • Fremont Brewing Company, Seattle, WA

  • 21st Amendment Brewery, San Francisco, CA
  • Left Hand Brewing Company, Longmont, CO
