Swamp Head Brewery Wins Award at World Beer Cup®

Gainesville, FL • April 11, 2014 — Swamp Head Brewery claimed a gold medal in the 2014 World Beer Cup ®, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers.

Gold, silver and bronze awards in the competition’s 94 beer style categories were presented April 11, 2014 during the World Beer Cup award ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Denver, Colorado.

Swamp Head was awarded a gold in the Smoke Beer style category for its Smoke Signal, a robust smoked porter that uses alder wood smoked malt to obtain a soft, smoky flavor.  Swamp Head is a 10-bbl microbrewery located in Gainesville, FL that focuses on brewing world-class beer for the craft beer drinkers in their home state of Florida.

“The hard work of our brewers and the rest of our Swamp Head team to be recognized at this prestigious international event for our beer is truly amazing. We hope this will help show the world that the breweries here in Florida are brewing world class beer,” said Luke Kemper, Owner/Operator at Swamp Head. “We’ve worked very hard on Smoke Signal along with all of our other beers and are truly honored to receive a gold medal. It’s one of our favorite beers that we brew, and to see it win such an prominent award is a lot of fun.”

World Beer Cup® winners were selected by an international panel of 219 beer judges from 31 countries. Regarded as the “Olympics of Beer Competition,” the World Beer Cup saw an impressive field of 4,754 entries from 1,403 breweries in 58 countries.

Presented by the Brewers Association, the World Beer Cup® has been held every other year since 1996, to celebrate the art and science of brewing by recognizing outstanding achievement. For more additional information, visit the World Beer Cup website.

Swamp Head Brewery was founded in 2008 in Gainesville, FL and has been striving to follow their mission of brewing world-class beer and establishing themselves as Florida’s Brewery. In 2009, Swamp Head started selling Wild Night Honey Cream Ale, Cottonmouth Belgian Witbier, Stump Knocker Pale Ale, Midnight Oil Oatmeal Coffee Stout and Big Nose IPA. These five beers remain as their year round portfolio today. While the year round offerings share the spotlight as the brewery’s flagship beers, Swamp Head also produces many other beers on a seasonal and limited basis. Swamp Head will move into a new Gainesville facility in late 2014, increasing capacity and the size of their tasting room.

It’s a Swampy Mountain High

We don’t collaborate often, but when we do it’s with great friends.

This time, it was with our friends from Twisted Pine Brewing Company in Boulder, Co. and we’ll be rocking a two part American Saison collaboration using malts and hops grown in Colorado.

The idea to get together on a beer came about while drinking Saison du Swamp at GABF out in Denver. The saisons were flowing so freely that the talk about brewing something similar just so happened to make its way into the conversation. A few months later, here we are with our two part Farmhouse IPA, Swampy Mountain High.

We always love to use unique, home field ingredients whenever we brew with a friend from far away. This time, Crystal and Nugget hops grown right in Twisted Pine’s home state of Colorado were used in the brew to provide the up front, in your face hop profile that we were looking for. For us to throw a little of Swamp Head’s Florida roots in the mix we used a pile of homegrown cane sugar to give Swampy Mountain High its clean, dry finish.

The outcome was a clean, hop forward Farmhouse IPA that we are proud to be a part of.

Just as exciting as the beer itself, is… THE RELEASE PARTIES! For this cross country collab, we’ll have a two state release that will build up to Colorado Craft Beer Week’s Collaboration Fest and the Craft Brewer’s Conference, both in Denver. We’ll start off with a tapping at The Wetlands on March 12th for the Florida Release, with the beer going out into distribution in Swamp Head’s Florida territory shortly after that.

The Colorado Release will begin with one of the biggest events of Colorado Beer Week, the Collaboration Fest, on March 22nd and culminate with a bunch of tappings surrounding the Craft Brewer’s Conference in Denver in April. More info on all of this to come.

It’s been a blast brewing this beer and will be surreal being a part of one of the nation’s biggest beer weeks… So, come into The Wetlands and celebrate with us next week!!!

RSVP to the Florida Release tapping at The Wetlands on Wednesday, March 12th, 2014. https://www.facebook.com/events/1446037565631869/

Swamp Head Brewery announces new location.

GAINESVILLE, FL, November 25, 2013 – Scherer Construction of North Florida, a leading Design/Build, Construction Management, and General Contracting firm, announced today that they have been contracted to design and build a new brewery and tasting room for Swamp Head Brewery in southwest Gainesville.

The project involves new construction of a 13,300 S.F. building on a 5-acre site located off of SW 42 Ave. near the Alley Katz Lanes bowling alley. The new building will include a full brewery, canning, warehouse, offices, and tasting room with a large outdoor deck. The site also alleviates the parking issues of their previous location and has ample room for future growth. The expanded new location will increase and streamline their production capacity, including canning. The project is currently in the design phase with construction starting by April 2014 and a scheduled completion of September 2014.
