Darwin Brewing Company was founded with the goals of crafting distinctive indigenous artisan brews and sharing the flavors, culture, and native mystique of South America’s Andean Region with beer lovers around the world.

Our story began in January 2012 on a modest brewing system situated within the internationally renowned Peruvian restaurant Darwin’s on 4th. Located in Sarasota’s historic Citrus Exchange Building, Chef Darwin Santa Maria opened Darwin’s on 4th to critical acclaim, offering authentic Andean cuisine alongside live music.

As Darwin’s on 4th became an established success throughout the culinary world, Brewmaster Jorge Rosabal began crafting complex and flavorful artisan in-house brews to pair with Chef Darwin’s world-class cuisine. Through beer dinners, festivals, reviews, and local buzz within the burgeoning Florida craft beer community, Rosabal’s creations became well recognized as uniquely artisan, Andean influenced brews. In 2013, Darwin Brewing Company was born to share the beers of Darwin’s on 4th, and Rosabal expanded his operations beyond Darwin’s on 4th to a newly constructed fifteen-barrel production facility, tasting room, and beer garden in nearby Bradenton, Florida.

Named one the top brewpubs in the country by USA Today in January 2014, Darwin’s on 4th continues to offer Rosabal’s unique brews paired with Chef Darwin Santa Maria’s world-class cuisine, and carries on its tradition of hosting premier beer dinners. Recently, Darwin’s on 4th was named among the 2013 Best Chefs America and received a Best New Restaurant Golden Spoon award from Florida Trend Magazine. Chef Darwin Santa Maria was named the “2012 Best Peruvian Chef in America” by the Peruvian Embassy in Washington and has been featured on the James Beard Celebrity Chef Tour twice.

Darwin Brewing Company earned thirteen medals at last year’s Tampa Bay Beer Week including second runner up for Best Beer in Florida and Brewmaster Jorge Rosabal’s latest Andean influenced brews continue to push traditional brewing boundaries. Charapa, a spiced porter infused with orange blossom honey and Amazonian aji charapita peppers, was named one of “4 Great American Beer Festival beers we love” by Draft Magazine in October 2013.
